From August 11–13, BCTEC participated in Caving 2026 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, an international conference focused on cave mining that brought together professionals, specialists and representatives from the global mining industry.
Throughout the three-day conference, BCTEC participated as an Exhibitor Sponsor, with a dedicated booth where our team showcased the company’s engineering capabilities, areas of expertise and proprietary technologies supporting mine planning and operations.
The event also provided an opportunity to connect with professionals from across the international mining community, exchange experiences and discuss some of the challenges and developments shaping the future of cave mining.
Technical presentation at Caving 2026
One of the highlights of our participation was the presentation “Integrated Caving and Gravity Flow Modelling for Remnant Resource Optimization,” delivered by Diego Pollard, Senior Engineer at BCTEC, during the conference’s Gravity Flow session.
The work brought together contributions from Raúl Castro (University of Chile); Yonathan Molina and Rodrigo Quiroz (Codelco – Chuquicamata); and Lenin Arancibia, Mauricio Valderrama, Bryan Castro and Sebastián Ortiz (BCTEC).
Its presentation at Caving 2026 provided an opportunity to share this work within an international technical forum and contribute to the exchange of knowledge and experience among professionals and specialists in cave mining.
Connecting with the international caving community
BCTEC’s participation in Caving 2026 reflects our commitment to remaining actively connected with the international technical community, sharing knowledge and experience, and continuing to develop engineering and technology solutions for the current and future challenges of mining.
We thank Codelco – Chuquicamata and all the authors involved in the work for making its presentation at Caving 2026 possible. We also thank the Australian Centre for Geomechanics (ACG) for organizing the conference and creating another valuable opportunity for technical exchange within the international caving community.
